Ramsey’s Arrival, Fred’s Legacy & a Thank You to Donors

🐏 New Sheep on the Block🐏

Meet Ramsey!

We’re thrilled to welcome Ramsey to Sunshine Farm Sanctuary!

Ramsey arrived on November 3rd after his previous flock sadly passed away. His owner didn’t want him to be alone and reached out to us in hopes of finding him a new home and friends — and we were more than happy to say yes!

🐑 He hadn’t been shorn in quite a while, so he got a fresh cut before moving in. He joined our Alpaca Gabe for a shearing session just last month!

🤝 Ramsey adjusted wonderfully and even gets along with our oldest sheep, Fred. He’s now happily part of the flock and loving sanctuary life.

📸 Before Ramsey came to us we went to his old home and did a simple sheer because he hadn't been shorn in a long time! It was safer for him in the transport and much easier to move him!

🐏 Honoring Fred 🐏

Every sanctuary has a founding story, and for us, that story includes Fred — our wise old Katahdin sheep, now 14 years old.

Fred was originally raised by Leila, our Vice President (and my daughter), as a 4-H market sheep. But when it came time to send him to market… she just couldn’t do it. Fred had won her heart. He even wore a diaper and walked through our house a few times!

Later, life changes meant we had to move — and without a second thought, my father Bill Darpino took in both Fred and his buddy Gabe to live on his farm in New Jersey.

That moment helped inspire the mission of Sunshine Farm Sanctuary: to give animals in transition a forever, love-filled home.

Fred is now a gentle elder, and we’re beginning to see his health decline. When his time comes, we find peace in imagining him reuniting with Dad in heaven — the two of them walking fields together again.

Even if you don’t share that belief, we hope you can feel the peace and purpose his story brings to our hearts. 💛

🐑 Sheep Spotlight: Suffolk & Katahdin Facts 🐑

At Sunshine Farm Sanctuary, our flock is made up of a few different breeds — each with their own personalities, needs, and fun facts! Two of our most beloved breeds are Suffolk and Katahdin sheep.

🐏 Suffolk Sheep

Suffolk sheep are known for their black faces and legs with thick, white wool. They're a meat breed, prized for their size and growth rate. They're also very social and curious — often the first to greet you at the fence!

Did You Know?

• Suffolk lambs grow quickly and are often raised for 4-H and fairs.

• They have no wool on their faces or legs, making them easy to spot.

• Friendly and active, they often bond easily with humans.

🐏 Katahdin Sheep🐏

Katahdins are a hair sheep breed, meaning they don’t need to be sheared! Instead of wool, they grow a thick winter coat that naturally sheds in warmer months.

Fun Facts:

• Originally bred in Maine.

• Hardy and parasite-resistant — great for sanctuary environments.

• Known for their calm temperament and strong maternal instincts.

At the sanctuary, we love the unique gifts each breed brings to our flock. Whether it's Suffolk spunk or Katahdin chill, they each teach us something new about care, patience, and joy in the everyday.

🌻 The Power of Monthly Giving 🌻

Reader Thanks for being here!

At Sunshine Farm Sanctuary, we are so grateful for our five faithful monthly donors. Their support gives us something incredibly valuable: dependability. Knowing those gifts are coming in each month allows us to care for our animals with consistency and confidence.

Even a $5 monthly donation makes a real difference — helping us cover feed, vet visits, and daily care for our growing sanctuary family.

This spring, we lost one cherished donor. In honor of his memory, we’d like to recognize Roy Darpino, who gave faithfully every month since the sanctuary was created in honor of his son, Bill. His love and generosity left a lasting impact, and we’re so thankful.

Will you consider joining our monthly giving community?

Your steady support helps us love and care for animals in need — month after month. 💛

Gabe Our Beloved Alpaca

Gabe, Our beloved Alpaca Gabe apx 15yrs old Gabe's Story is one of the reasons we started the Sanctuary. The first was to honor Bill Darpino's love for animals, a love that was evident in his care for Gabe. The second was to provide a loving place for animals whose owners, due to life's circumstances, could no longer care for them. This Sanctuary is a beacon of hope, offering comfort and love to animals and their owners in need. A younger Gabe - 4yrs ish His daughter Joan was going through a...
